Fedir Lahno’s Graphic Vernissage


    On February 26, 2021, an opening of a personal exhibition of graphic art by a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine Fedir Lahno took place in O.O.Osmerkin Art-Memorial Museum. The exhibition is dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the artist. Also, a catalogue “Life power of Fedir Lahno’s creative work” was presented within the art project “Laureates of the Regional Award in Fine Art and Study of Art named after Oleksandr Osmerkin”.
    Lahno Fedir Fedorovych was born on February 24, 1956, in the village of Oleksandrivka, the Kirovohrad Oblast. Graduated from Kharkiv State Art and Industrial Institute, now Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts (1983). A member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (1992). A painter, graphic artist. Tow0timw laureate of the Regional Award in Fine Art and Study of Art named after Oleksandr Osmerkin in the nomination “modern tendencies” (2011, 2019). A participant of all-Ukrainian and international art exhibitions. The works are kept in the museum, numerous private collections in Ukraine and abroad. The areas of creative work – monumental art, painting, graphic art, book illustration.
    The series of the drawings “Fragments of vitality & morality” by Fedir Lahno is displayed for the first time. The drawings were presented by the author to the museum collection “Modern Ukrainian Fine Art” in 2020.
    The fans of the artist came to the exhibition opening and the presentation of the scientific and art edition. Everyone was fascinated by the phantasmagoric plots of Fedir Lahno’s graphic compositions and shared their emotions after exploring life conflicts reproduced in the drawings.
    The leading researcher of the museum, art historian, Merited Artist of Ukraine Andrii Nadezhdin presented the catalogue of the exhibition “Life power of Fedir Lahno’s creative work” and mentioned: “28 drawings made with a simple graphic pencil in 2019 figuratively convey the peculiarities of the history and everyday life of the present time, marked by life and death limits. Fedir Lahno’s creative compositions from the series “Fragments of vitality & morality” is a great path from Biblical to cosmic through everyday”.
    The head of the Department of Visual Art of the Regional Universal Library named after D.I.Chyzhevskyi, by the way also the laureate of the award, Svitlana Ushakova told about her visit to the artist’s studio in the village of Oleksandrivka where he lives, about its aesthetic atmosphere, as well as her work with Fedir Lahno on the arranging of albums of the talented fellow-artists “Hryhorii Hnatiuk. Nebel Pastorals” and “Volodymyr Kyrianov. Reality of the Unreal”.
    Olena Kyrychenko, the Ph.D. in Art History, the associate professor of the Subdepartment of Visual Art and Design of the Department of Arts of the Central  Ukrainian State Pedagogical University named after V.Vynnychenko, who received the award in 2011 in the nomination “study and history of art” together with Fedir Lahno, described the characteristic features of the artist’s style, his appeal to traditions of West European Modernism, American Abstract Art, and Transavantgarde. She also introduced her student Kristina Nikonova, who conducts art research on the creative work of the artist and is working on a report for the all-Ukrainian student conference that is going to be in Kyiv soon. According to Kristina Nikonova, the student and her thesis tutor have been so much impressed by the exhibition so that they decided to make additions to the presentation.
    The gem of the vernissage and a musical gift for the visitors was a performance by the student in the violin class in Kropyvnytskyi Musical College Kateryna Misko. Together with her teacher Nataliia Karaban and accompanist Svitlana Kontsedalova they performed romantic music works by famous composers of the 19th and 20th centuries – Max Bruch, Niccolò Paganini, and Grażyna Bacewicz which were consonant with the philosophical drawings of Fedir Lahno “Fragments of vitality & morality”.
